§ Earl WINTERTONAn unofficial mission from Fiji visited India in 1920 in order to ascertain whether a satisfactory scheme could be devised for Indian immigration. On a guarantee being given that the position of Indians would be equal to that of other British subjects in Fiji, the Government of India in 1922 sent a deputation to investigate local conditions and report 1253W whether Fiji offers a suitable field for Indian colonisation. The report of this deputation is at present under the Government of India's consideration, but it will be necessary to consult the Indian Legislature before any decision is arrived at.
