HC Deb 04 December 1922 vol 159 cc1240-1W
Sir BURTON CHADWICK

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the deputation from the Deck and Harbour Authorities' Association has yet been received in connection with the effort to secure an extension of the customary hours of attendance of Customs and Excise officers in Customs warehouses or on quays at certain ports: whether, in any event, all relevant circumstances, and especially the point of view of the Customs and Excise staffs concerned, will be taken into consideration; and whether the policy of the Government in this matter will be the same in this respect as that of the late Ministry?

Mr. BALDWIN

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regards the remaining parts of the question, I readily endorse the undertaking of my predecessor that all relevant circumstances will be taken into consideration.
