HC Deb 04 December 1922 vol 159 cc1254-5W
Major KELLEY

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of British blast furnaces relit during November: the number now in blast; the number still cold; and what percentage of furnaces are in blast in France, Belgium, and Germany?

Sir P. LLOYD-GREAME

I am not yet in a position to state the numbers of furnaces in blast at the end of November as compared with the end of October. At the end of October, 151 furnaces were in blast in the United Kingdom out of a total of 487, leaving 336 cold at that date as compared with 109 in blast out of 221 in France and 33 out of a total of 54 in Belgium. I am unable to give any particulars with regard to Germany.
