§ Sir H. CLOUGHasked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the death of a 14-year old girl in Wales, who was married at 12; and whether, if such a marriage is legal, he can see his way to amend the law?
§ Mr. SHORTTI have seen a newspaper report of the case referred to. According to the law of England 12 is the age at which a girl becomes capable of marriage, and I think there would be general agreement that the age is much too low and ought to be raised. The question will be considered in the event of any revision of the law of marriage; but I do not think I can undertake to introduce special legislation for the purpose of dealing with this point alone.
