HC Deb 04 April 1922 vol 152 cc2049-50W
Mr. LAWSON

asked the President of the Board of Education whether it is proposed to set up a Select Committee to inquire into the question of teachers' pensions before any decision is given on this question by the Government?

Mr. FISHER

I would refer the hon. Member to the answers given on the 27th March to the hon. Members for Northeast Leeds and Caerphilly (Major Birchall and Mr. Morgan Jones).

Mr. LAWSON

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that it is being stated by teachers that their salaries were fixed by the Burnham Committee on the assumption that their pensions were non-contributory; and, if so, will this fact be taken into consideration before giving a decision on the Geddes proposal for a 5 per cent. contribution towards pensions?

Mr. FISHER

I am aware that such statements are being made. There will be an opportunity for discussion of the point when the provisions of the Bill are before Parliament.
