HC Deb 04 April 1922 vol 152 cc2046-7W
Mr. AMMON

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that every sub-postmaster in the employ of the Post Office is called upon to make an annual return to his head postmaster; that among the questions is one as to the rates of pay which are given to his sub-office assistants; whether, in practice, it is found that sub-postmasters fail or decline to give this information; and whether, having regard to the conditions under which sub-office assistants are employed, he will instruct all his surveyors and head postmasters to insist upon replies being given to this question and will make arrangements for the tabulation and publication of the information so obtained?

Mr. KELLAWAY

A return of assistants employed on Post Office duties, including their pay, is obtained annually from sub-postmasters. I am not aware that they fail or decline to supply the information, or that there is any need for the suggested instruction. I am not prepared to publish the particulars.
