§ Dr. M'DONALDasked the Minister of Pensions if he will take steps to relax the order that tuberculous ex-service men must be treated within the area of their residence, especially when greater benefits can be offered outside such area and voluntary means are available for the maintenance of the patient?
§ Sir A. MONDI have been asked to answer this question. So far as I am aware no such Order as is referred to in the question has been issued. The institutional treatment of tuberculous ex-service men is undertaken by the county and county borough councils, and it is within the discretion of a council, acting on the advice of their tuberculosis officer, to decide in what institution any particular case shall be treated, provided that the institution and the arrangements made by the council for the use of the particular institution have been approved by the Ministry of Health.
