HC Deb 31 May 1921 vol 142 c855W
Major HILLS

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the Broom Parish Council, County Durham, arranged to purchase a recreation ground at Ushaw Moor; that the Durham County Council gave their consent to the parish council borrowing the £900 required for the purpose, but that the Ministry of Health refused their consent; and whether, seeing that the scheme and loan were approved by a parish meeting, that the recreation ground is urgently required in this coal-mining district, that the Broom Parish Council have no other loans of any kind, and in view of the urgency of the matter and the general desire of the inhabitants, he will withdraw his veto?

Sir A. MOND

I can only refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member for Barnard Castle (Mr. Swan), on the 13th instant with regard to this matter.
