HC Deb 31 May 1921 vol 142 c845W
Lord H. CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

asked the Chief Secretary whether, under the new assimilation scheme of the Irish prison service, there are chief warders with 20 years' service in that rank who have been graded on the minimum pay of Class 2 as if they had been newly promoted to that rank; whether in the Civil Service, and in all posts under the Crown, no officer is ever reduced in rank or pay except on reports of inefficiency or punishment and will he issue instructions to the General Prisons Board in order that this obviously just policy may obtain in the Irish prison service?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

Outstanding cases of hardship arising out of the assimilation of the two prison services are being specially dealt with, and decisions in regard to them will shortly be promulgated.
