HC Deb 31 May 1921 vol 142 c848W
Mr. J. DAVISON

asked the Minister of Pensions whether in any of the mental hospitals under his control methods of treatment advised by medical officers have been withheld from patients, and, if so, on what grounds; whether schemes of employment suitable for patients are in operation in these hospitals; and, if not, whether such schemes will be instituted?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I have no knowledge of any instance in which treatment advised by responsible medical officers has been withheld from patients in hospitals under the control of my Department for the treatment of neurasthenia and other mental disorders which are not certifiable under the Lunacy Acts. In the majority of these institutions suitable occupational treatment has already been provided, and it is hoped that it may be found possible to extend the arrangement to the remainder.
