HC Deb 01 March 1921 vol 138 cc1626-7W
Mr. HURD

asked the Postmaster-General what is the present position of the Empire chain of wireless communications; and when will it be available for public use and at what charges?

Mr. PEASE

The first two stations of the chain are being constructed at Lea-field, near Oxford, and at Abu Zabal, near Cairo, and will, I hope, be finished early this summer. The other stations are being designed by a small Committee of experts, on the general lines proposed by the Imperial Wireless Telegraphy Committee in their Report of May last, but it is impossible to say, even approximately, when the stations will be available for use. The charges have not yet been fixed.
