HC Deb 01 March 1921 vol 138 cc1633-4W
Captain BOWYER

asked the Secretary of State for War whether complaints are arising that men who signed on for two more years' service after the armistice are being, or likely to be, retained in the service against their will after their period of service has elapsed; and will he see that those men especially who are serving abroad are brought home to England punctually at the end of their terms of service?

Sir A. WILLIAMSON

During the present trooping season, such of these soldiers as were serving beyond the seas, were liable for retention in the service for an extra period not exceeding 12 months under the terms of their engagement, and have been held to serve overseas for all or part of the extra year in cases where they could not be relieved. They will be brought home for discharge before the expiration of the extra period to which they are liable.
