HC Deb 24 June 1921 vol 143 c1710W
Mr. G. LOCKER-LAMPSON

asked the Minister of Health if he will state the amount and scale of remuneration given to clerks of the county councils and town clerks in boroughs who are appointed under Section 12 of the Representation of the People Act, 1918, to act as registration officers; also the bonus, if any; and whether, in giving such remuneration, account is taken of the salaries they are paid by local authorities by whom they are employed?

Mr. YOUNG

I have been asked to reply. Maximum scales of registration expenses were prescribed by the Treasury on the 16th March, 1920, on the recommendation of a Departmental Committee presided over by the hon. Member for South Leeds, and are published as Statutory Rule and Order No. 395 of 1920. These scales, having been fixed as recently as March, 1920, do not carry a bonus. They were framed on the basis of reasonable remuneration for the duties placed upon the officers in question by the Act, and any consequent adjustment in the salaries paid to these officers by local authorities is a matter for the local authorities concerned.
