Mr. HAYDAY

asked the hon. Member for the Pollok Division of Glasgow, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, how many officials in his Department are at present receiving a salary, including War bonus, of £1,000 or over; and how many received a salary of £1,000 or over in June, 1914.

Lieut.-Colonel Sir J. GILMOUR (for the First Commissioner of Works)

The number of officials in the Office of Works who received a salary of £1,000 or over in June, 1914, was 4. At present there are 12 officials whose substantive salary amounts to £1,000 or more. In addition, there are 64 officials whose substantive salary is less than £1,000, but who receive £1,000 per annum or over when War bonus is included. The latter number will be reduced by about 22 on the 1st September, 1921.
