asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he will give, in the form of that part of Appendix C of the Return of Public Income and Expenditure, 1908, which related to Scotland, the figures for the years 1913–14 and 1919–20 of the charges transferred from local to imperial funds?

This statement has been prepared on the same basis as Appendix C. of H.C. 258 of 1908. It does not include the various charges which have been imposed on Imperial Funds since 1908, for example:—

Payments to Police Authorities (£718,619 in 1919–20 to make up Local Taxation Grants to-one-half of this expenditure).

Payments to Local Authorities by the General Board of Control for Scotland.

Grants for Highlands and Islands Medical Service (£42,000) and other new grants from Vote-for Scottish Board of Health.

Payments under the Insurance Acts.

Payments under the Old Age Pension Acts.

Payments through the Road Fund under the Roads Act.

Grants for Education.

Grants towards the cost of Registration of Parliamentary Electors.
