HC Deb 20 June 1921 vol 143 c904W
Captain COOTE

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he can give details of average pithead and merchant's prices per ton of coal, as follows, for the month of March, 1921: Cost of cutting in seam (including wages and materials), loading and haulage in the pit, hoisting to pithead, screening and washing, loading into wagons, shunting and haulage of wagons per mile, unloading of wagons (in typical cases), stacking, loading into carts, and cartage and delivery to consumer per mile (in typical cases)?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

The price of coal was decontrolled on the 1st of March last, and the Mines Department has no means of obtaining the information about price for which the hon. and gallant Member asks. As regards cost of production, I regret that I am not in a position to give him any more detailed information than is contained in the White Paper (Cmd. 1262).
