HC Deb 20 June 1921 vol 143 c916W
Mr. LYLE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if a British Consul-General has been gazetted to Smyrna and, in that case, to what Government he is accredited; and whether any other consular appointments, and, if so, of what nature, have been made in any part of the former Ottoman Empire?

Sir P. LLOYD-GREAME

Sir Harry Lamb has been appointed His Majesty's Consul-General at Smyrna, and Consuls-General have also been appointed at Constantinople and Beyrout. Consuls have been appointed at Aleppo and Damascus, and at Adana, Erzerum, and Trebizond. The officers designated to these last three places are at present employed elsewhere. A Vice-Consul has been appointed to Jeddah. No application has been made to any Government for an exequatur in favour of these officers, and, pending a final settlement of the present situation, they will act as local representatives of His Majesty's High Commissioner at Constantinople.
