HC Deb 20 June 1921 vol 143 cc907-8W
Mr. KENNEDY

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware of the public inconvenience caused by the failure of the North British Railway Company to provide reasonable facilities for the carriage of passengers, goods, and vehicles over the Burntisland-Granton and Queensferry ferry services; that the last daily sailings are from Granton at 3.35 p.m., from Burntisland at 4.20 p.m., from North Queensferry at 6 p.m., and from South Queensferry at 6.30 p.m.; and that on account of the prohibitive increase of charges for the conveyance of bicycles, motor cycles, and motor cars the use of the main means of road communication between Edinburgh and Fifeshire has been practically closed; and whether he is in a position to cause steps to be taken in the direction of having the services mentioned put under public control, taking into consideration the difference between the Forth ferry services controlled by the North British Railway Company and the Tay ferry service controlled by the Dundee Harbour Commissioners?

Sir E. GEDDES

In regard to the first and second parts of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to him on the 12th April last. I have nothing to add to that reply, and do not feel justified in taking further action in the matter. In regard to the third part of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. and gallant Member for Leith (Captain W. Benn) on the 1st instant, a copy of which I am sending him.
