asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many officials in his Department at present receive a salary of £1,000 or over; and how many received such salaries in June, 1914?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

The number of officials in the Foreign Office who received a salary of £1,000 or over in June, 1914, was 13. At present there are 15 officials (excluding two who are employed in other offices) whose substantive salaries amount to £1,000 or more. In addition there are 26 officials whose substantive salary is less than £1,000, but who receive £1,000 per annum or over, including bonus.
