HC Deb 15 June 1921 vol 143 cc450-1W
Sir S. HOARE

asked the Postmaster-General the amount that was paid to employés in the General Post Office postal, telegraph, and telephone services for the year 1920; and, if these figures are not available, whether he will give the last figures, weekly, monthly, or annual that are available?

Mr. PEASE

The amount paid to employés in the General Post Office postal, telegraph, and telephone services, charged in the Commercial Accounts for the year to the 31st March, 1921, was approximately £45,000,000, divided in the following manner:

Postal £29,900,000
Telegraph £7,000,000
Telephone £8,100,000
£45,000,000

To make up the total wages bill of the Post Office it would be necessary to add certain items amounting in all to £4,400,000, which were chargeable to capital, or recoverable from the savings bank fund.
