§ Mr. ORMSBY-GOREasked the Minister of Agriculture whether any part of the herring fishery guarantee has been recovered; and, if so, what is the amount of the same?
Sir A. BOSCAWENThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. With regard to the second part it is not possible to give even an approximately accurate figure at the present time as a very large proportion of the herrings are being sold through agents in different parts of the Continent, and, in the natural course of events, accounts of these sales do not come forward for some considerable time, with the result that it is impossible to state at any given moment either the amount of herrings which have been sold or the amount of money realised for them.
