HC Deb 02 June 1921 vol 142 cc1273-4W
Lieut.-Colonel M. WILSON

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of calves slaughtered in the United Kingdom for the year ended 4th June, 1920, as compared with the average annual slaughter of calves in pre-War years?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

Estimates of the number of calves and other classes of livestock have been made for many years on the basis of the total numbers of livestock recorded in the annual returns, and according to these calculations the total number of calves slaughtered in the United Kingdom in the year ending 4th June, 1920, is estimated at about 1,500,000. The average number slaughtered annually in the five years ended 4th June, 1914, is estimated at 940,000.
