Lieut.-Colonel J. WARDasked the Minister of Labour whether his Department has advised the Western Electrical Company, engaged on a contract for the Postmaster-General at Southampton, to pay the navvies and labourers 2d. per hornless than the recognised rates of wages for this class of labour in that district; and, if so, why this has been done?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAI would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the answer given to him in this matter by my right hon. Friend the Postmaster-General on the 21st instant. I understand that the rate suggested for this contract is not less than the rates paid for comparable work in the district.
