§ Mr. HOODasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been called to the proposed ad valorem duty of 40 per cent. upon the import of British goods into Cuba; whether he has any information as to such duty being in the nature of a reprisal for the 50 per cent. ad valorem duty upon cigars imported into the United Kingdom from Cuba; and whether, having regard to the failure of such ad valorem duty on imported cigars as a revenue producer, he can now see his way to intimate his intentions with regard to that duty in the same way as he has done with regard to Excess Profits Duty?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI have seen reports in regard to the proposed imposition of Customs Duties by Cuba, but I have been unable to obtain any official confirmation of them. As regards the last part of the question, I cannot anticipate the Budget discussions.
