HC Deb 22 February 1921 vol 138 cc777-8W
Mr. REMER

asked the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the facts relating to the ss. "Warstag," which was loaded by the Inland Waterways and Docks Department at Salonika and consigned to Constantinople in August, 1919; is he aware that a court of inquiry was held in October, 1919, as to the methods of loading this steamer; that it was found that the methods resulted in a loss of £30,000 to the public, and that the court of inquiry found that this loss had been caused by the incompetence and negligence of the officers concerned and that they should be personally surcharged for this amount; and what further action he intends to take?

Sir A. WILLIAMSON

I am not aware of the circumstances stated in the hon. Member's question, but I have called for a report from the military authorities at Constantinople.
