HC Deb 22 February 1921 vol 138 c775W
Major GLYN

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether there is any possibility of imposing an Order for the total restriction of the sale of all spirits in Ireland until a better condition of affairs exists; and whether he has any information to the effect that, to some extent, drink is responsible for the increase of crime in Ireland?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

I am not aware that there is any evidence in support of the suggestion in the last part of the question, and in the circumstances it is not proposed to make such an Order. It is always within the competence of the competent military authority to make such an Order if the circumstances in his opinion demand it.
