asked the Home Secretary how many of the governors of His Majesty's prisons had experience of the prison service before taking up their present appointments; and in what capacity they had such experience?

Mr. SHORTT

Out of the total of 54 prison governors, 30 had previous prison experience—two as prison medical officers, 27 in subordinate ranks in the English prison service, and one in a Colonial prison service.
