HC Deb 22 February 1921 vol 138 c789W
Mr. WATERSON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture the number of heifer calves slaughtered during the month of January, 1921?

Sir R. SANDERS

The number of heifer calves slaughtered is not known, but it is estimated that the total number of calves of all kinds slaughtered in Great Britain in the four weeks ended January last is 54,000. This is the latest date for which the figures are available. The figures for the corresponding, period in 1919–20 were 73,000. I may add that it is believed that more calves are now being reared than has been the case in the past two years.
