At 4th February, the latest date for which detailed figures are available, the number of unemployment books in the textile trades lodged at Employment Exchanges in respect of total unemployment was 40,901 for men and 76,274 for women, while the number lodged in respect of short time working was 144,125 for men and 272,604 for women.
