Mr. A. T. DAVIESasked the Minister of Food on what commodities under the control of the Ministry profits are now being made by that Department; and whether he is in a position to specify such profits?
§ Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSONUntil the liquidation of stocks, which is now the primary concern of the Ministry, is completed I am unable to forecast the results which the Ministry's trading accounts will show when closed. I may repeat, however, that the object of the Department from its inception has been so to regulate, its trading as to be as nearly as possible self-supporting, without making either profit or loss, and, despite the pronounced fall in commodity values, I am still hopeful that this result will be satisfactorily achieved.
