HC Deb 21 February 1921 vol 138 c567W
Mr. A. T. DAVIES

asked the Minister of Food on what commodities under the control of the Ministry profits are now being made by that Department; and whether he is in a position to specify such profits?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

Until the liquidation of stocks, which is now the primary concern of the Ministry, is completed I am unable to forecast the results which the Ministry's trading accounts will show when closed. I may repeat, however, that the object of the Department from its inception has been so to regulate, its trading as to be as nearly as possible self-supporting, without making either profit or loss, and, despite the pronounced fall in commodity values, I am still hopeful that this result will be satisfactorily achieved.
