§ Mr. RONALD McNEILLasked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether certain officials attached to, or connected with, the British Embassy in Rome were recently arrested at Antivari and incarcerated in gaol there for some days until released through the intervention of the British Ambassador in Rome; if he can explain the pretext for this outrage; and whether any action has been, or will be, taken by His Majesty's Government to exact apology and reparation from the Jugo-Slav Government?
§ Mr. KELLAWAYMy hon. Friend is no doubt referring to an incident which occurred at Teodo, near Cattaro, on the night of the 12th-13th September, 1920. A British official attached to the Embassy at Rome, who landed at Teodo on the evening of the 12th, was arrested and detained for a few hours by the local military commander of the Serb-Croat-Slovene State. The official in question was travelling in a private capacity, and was not provided with papers, but was586W immediately released when identified. In the circumstances His Majesty's Government do not propose to take any further steps in the matter.
