HC Deb 21 February 1921 vol 138 c576W
Mr. A. WILLIAMS

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether his inquiries as to the attacks upon co-operative property in Ballintrillick, Ballymote, Nenagh, and Littleton, resulting in the destruction of the co-operative creameries in those places in October and November last, are yet complete; and, if so, what are the facts as disclosed by those inquiries?

Mr. HENRY

Further inquiries have been made, but I am informed that the civil population are not inclined to assist the police in their investigation. It has therefore proved impossible to obtain reliable information regarding the perpetrators of the outrages.

Mr. WILLIAMS

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether his attention has been called to a book entitled "A Plea for Justice," by George W. Russell, in which full particulars are given of attacks upon the property of Irish cooperative societies in no less than 42 cases up to the 27th November last; and whether a public inquiry into the whole question of the attacks on co-operative societies in Ireland will be held?

Mr. HENRY

My attention has been called to the publication in question. As has already been stated the Government are not prepared to hold a public inquiry into the matters to which it relates.
