§ Sir H. NIELDasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that non-commissioned officers of the Regular Army, who have been appointed on the permanent staff of the Territorial Army, and who have been unable to obtain quarters for themselves in the neighbourhood in which their work lies owing to the shortage of housing accommodation, and have to travel backwards and forwards daily, are called upon to pay their own travelling expenses; and whether he will take steps to remedy this?
§ Sir A. WILLIAMSONI regret that I am unable to agree as a general rule to the grant to Territorial Force Instructors of travelling expenses between their lodgings and their place of duty; but I would refer the hon. and learned Member to my answers to questions by the hon. and gallant Member for Lewisham East (Lieut.-Colonel Pownall) on the 2nd and 16th November last, in which I explained the steps which were being taken to relieve the difficulties of these instructors in regard to accommodation.
