HC Deb 21 April 1921 vol 140 cc2104-5W
Mr. LYLE

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to the deficit sustained in carrying on the London County Council tramways, whereby the ratepayers are penalised; and whether he will reconsider the official decision not to create the London traffic authority because there is no money, seeing that the relatively small sum needed could be forthcoming from the large amounts accruing from motor taxation?

Mr. NEAL

I am aware that a serious deficit is at present incurred in carrying on the London County Council tramways. I am advised that the money raised from the taxation of motor vehicles is not legally available for the purpose named.
