asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many officials are being paid by the State a war bonus on their salaries; what was the aggregate of the basic salaries; and what is the aggregate of the actual war bonus paid?

The total number of employçs, including manipulative employçs and certain industrial employçs, who are paid from the Exchequer, and receive salaries or wages plus Civil Service bonus, is estimated to be at present about 295,000; the aggregate of their basic salaries or wages is estimated to amount to £36,000,000 a year, approximately, and the aggregate of bonus, at the rate at present in force, which will be subject to revision on the 1st September next, to £45,000,000 a year, approximately.
