Captain COOTEasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that a number of officers pronounced to be permanently unfit during the War on 1723W account of disability caused by military service, and aggravated by service during the War, have been retired in the expectation that they would receive retired pay appropriate to their substantive rank on retirement, plus a disability pension proportionate to their percentage of disablement; that the Ministry of Pensions have refused to admit such officers to be entitled to retired pay for their substantive rank on retirement, and are paying retired pay and disability pension only for the rank these officers held when first pronounced permanently unfit during the War; and whether, in view of the fact that these officers retired under a misapprehension, he can see his way to having them replaced on the half-pay list if they so desire?
§ Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANSI understand my right hon. Friend the Minister of Pensions has under consideration a few cases of the kind referred to, and until I know his final decision, I think any action on the lines suggested in the last part of the question would be premature.
