§ Mr. WISEasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware of the grave situation in East Africa owing to the currency question; and if anything can be done to assist the planters?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLI am informed that many of the planters in East Africa are in serious difficulties, but it is a matter of opinion how far those difficulties are due to the currency questions which have arisen. I am advised that no arrangement for assisting planters is practicable short of a revival of world-trade, and the consequent increase of the prices obtainable for raw materials.
