HC Deb 07 April 1921 vol 140 c477W
Sir B. FALLE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if he is aware that the Royal Navy is the only service in which no marriage allowance is given to an officer, and that even indulgence passages, which were recommended by the Halsey Committee, are denied him; and if he will inquire into the matter with a view of pressing this question forward?

Mr. AMERY

With regard to marriage allowance, I regret I cannot add anything to my reply yesterday to a similar question by the hon. and gallant Member for East Lewisham (Lieut.-Colonel Parnall). As regards indulgence passages, the position of the naval officer in this respect is precisely the same as that of Army and Air Force officers. The opportunity for granting indulgence passages is necessarily rare at present, as the number of Government transports is small and insufficient even for the passages of Government passengers.
