Mr. HERBERTasked the President of the Board of Education whether uncertificated teachers are still receiving salaries of £90 per annum after more than 30 years' service; whether there is a great demand for these teachers in all grades of schools; and whether he will consider the advisability of either raising their salaries or granting them some pension after long service seeing that it is impossible for them to save on the present scale?
§ Mr. FISHERIt appears that during the financial year ended 31st March, 1921, about half a dozen uncertificated teachers were receiving salaries of the amount named after 30 years of service, but the operation of the second part of the carry-over of the provisional minimum scale on 1st April, 1921, will bring the salaries above that figure. Further increases may be given under the terms of the Report on Standard Scales, if and when that is adopted by local education authorities. Uncertificated teachers are already eligible for benefits under the School Teachers' (Superannuation) Act, 1918.
