§ Mr. RAMSDENasked the Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that the appointment of Sir Rajagopala Chari as president of the Madras Legislative Council is being criticised very strongly on the ground that he has no Parliamentary experience; and whether, in the interest of the smooth working of the reforms, he can select some appointee with the desired qualification?
§ Mr. MONTAGUI have received a telegram from a non-Brahman conference in India criticising this appointment (of which I have had no official intimation) on the ground stated. With reference to the last part of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to paragraph 6 of the Joint Select Committee's Second Report on the draft rules.
