§ Mr. REMERasked the President of the Board of Trade whether the Accounts Department of the Timber Supply Department has a staff of 300 persons; and whether there is any necessity for this large staff in view of the fact that the operations of this Department have now practically ceased?
Sir P. LLOYD GREAMEThe accounting staffs of the Timber Supplies Departments,i.e., home-grown and imported timber, at present number 327, of whom 69 are under notice to leave. The work of winding up both Departments will necessitate the retention of a considerable portion of the remaining staff of 256 for some time while the assets are being realised.
