§ Mr. ORMSBY-GOREasked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether his attention has been called to a statement of the Cardinal Secretary of State to the effect that the Holy See will recognise the French protectorate over all Roman Catholics in the East; whether this claim of France to such a protectorate extends to Palestine, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Persia; and, if so, whether this claim will be recognised in these four countries by the British Government?
