HC Deb 30 November 1920 vol 135 cc1142-3W
Mr. FORESTIER-WALKER

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the report of the Monmouthshire county analyst dealing with custard powders and rancid butter, wherein it is stated that the former are nothing more than coloured starch; and whether he will take steps to cause such powders to be clearly marked substitute or in such manner to indicate that they are not powdered eggs or any preparation thereof, and also that some limit of acidity should be fixed in the case of butter?

Dr. ADDISON

I am aware of the report referred to. I have no power under the existing statutes to require custard powders to be marked in the way suggested or to prescribe a limit of acidity in the case of butter.
