HC Deb 29 November 1920 vol 135 c945W
Lieut.-General Sir AYLMER HUNTER-WESTON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the War Office what would be the rough approximate cost to the country if the minimum pension given to all pre-War Army pensioners over 60 years of age were raised to a minimum of £1 per week; would this cost diminish annually; and, if so, roughly, at what rate?

Sir A. WILLIAMSON

Allowing for the recent increase in pre-war pensions and for the saving in old age pensions which would arise, the initial cost to the country of the increase to £1 a week would be about £200,000, decreasing at first by about £30,000 a year, but by smaller sums in later years.
