HC Deb 29 November 1920 vol 135 c942W
Mr. LAMBERT

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the monthly estimate of £82,000 for the Air Force in Mesopotamia is included in the approximate monthly cost of £2,500,000 for the troops there; similarly, are the Air Force monthly estimates of £4,000 for Constantinople, £80,500 for Egypt, and £18,250 for Palestine, included in the sums of £495,000, £625,000, and £610,000, which he recently estimated as the approximate monthly cost of the troops in these countries; and whether these sums represent total costs, or are there other sums defrayed by Naval and other Votes?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The figures for Army expenditure quoted do not include the Air Force; they represent the estimated current cost of the military forces, excluding capital expenditure and pensions. So far as I am aware, there are no other Votes bearing charges for the British fighting forces in these areas.
