HOLBROOKasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture whether he is aware that 2,500 acres of land have gone out of cultivation in the parish of Barton Stacey, Hampshire; whether any, and what, steps have been taken to meet the situation, having regard to the urgency of maintaining home food supplies; that of this land 600 acres should have been sown for wheat; and whether he is aware that the non-cultivation of the land in question is creating much local distress, owing to the large number of men who have been thrown out of employment?
Sir A. BOSCAWENThe Ministry's attention has been drawn to the estate to which the hon. and gallant Member refers, and a deputation from the County Agricultural Executive Committee is attending at the Ministry to-day to discuss what steps can be taken to deal effectively with the situation.
