DAVISONasked the Secretary of State for India whether a memorial from the Indian police force was submitted to the Government of India in July last which dealt with various grievances, especially in regard to the insufficiency of their pay; and will he inform the House what action has been taken in the matter?
§ Mr. MONTAGUYes, Sir. The Government of India informed me by despatch in July last that the memorials in question were then under their consideration. I have asked them when their recommendations may be expected to reach me, but have not yet received a reply. I am inquiring again by telegram, and have asked that they may be expedited.
