REESasked the Secretary of State for War whether the British troops stationed in Palestine are, and will in future be regarded as, a protective garrison for Egypt, or whether such are maintained in Palestine for the support of Palestine; and, if so, for how long a period their retention in this capacity is contemplated?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLUnder the terms of the mandate conferred upon Great Britain the British garrison is stationed in Palestine to afford internal security to the inhabitants and to protect the country from external aggression. When the civil administration is able to hold its own within the country it may be possible to reduce the number of troops still further.
