HC Deb 24 November 1920 vol 135 cc447-8W
Mr. L. LYLE

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will state how many ex-service men have been discharged from Woolwich Arsenal within the last two months; how many men have been so discharged who have not served at the front; and whether he will at least ensure that disabled men employed at the Arsenal are retained at work?

Sr A. WILLIAMSON

No ex-service men have been discharged from Woolwich Arsenal within the last two months except in cases where on becoming redundant in their own departments they have been offered alternative employment and declined to accept it. No distinction is made between men who served abroad and men who served at home. Additional work has recently been allotted to various departments in the Arsenal, which has temporarily obviated the necessity for dismissing some ex-service men previously listed for discharge. Preferential treatment has throughout been given to disabled men.
