§ Mr. T. A. LEWISasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture if he will say what is the number of men settled on the land in Wales under the Land Settlement Act; how many of these are ex-service men; and what is the average price per acre paid for the land?
Sir A. BOSCAWEN628 men, of whom 544 are ex-service and 84 civilians, have been actually settled in Wales under the Land Settlement (Facilities) Act. Sufficient land has, however, already been acquired by councils to provide holdings for a further 600 men as soon as the necessary cottages and buildings have been erected. The average price of the land purchased is £34 15s. per acre.
